As many parts of Western Australia continue to encounter an extended dry period the burden of sand in our horses is at a much greater risk. Abdominal x-rays to check for sand accumulation, especially as a part of colic investigations is a great way to detect variations of sand build up in the large colon. If sand is present there are many solutions moving forward to resolve sand burden inc drenching with Epsom salts with gradually increased doses of psyllium based supplements.
