Snake Bites

West Coast Vets is set up to manage emergency cases, including snake bites. They have intensive care facilities and trained staff available to monitor and deal with stressful emergency situations. Stabilising pets during possible snake bites includes oxygen care, IV fluids, anti-venom and hospitalisation. The 24/7 care allows you to bring your pet in immediately if snake bite is suspected. Snake bites in pets can progress quickly and become life-threatening without prompt veterinary intervention. This involves;

  • Urgent Assessment and monitoring of vital signs

  • Blood tests and diagnostic work up

  • Antivenom - if venomation confirmed

  • Ongoing impatient monitoring 

  • Supportive treatments: IV Fluids, Oxygen, Pain Relief etc
