At West Coast Vets, our small animal reproduction services are designed to support breeders and pet owners through every stage of the breeding journey. From pre-breeding health assessments and fertility planning to pregnancy monitoring and whelping support. We combine advanced diagnostics tools to optimise breeding outcomes. Whether you're an experienced breeder or exploring breeding for the first time, we're here to offer trusted advice and comprehensive care every step of the way.

Breeding Consultation: Required prior to any breeding services for new patients. This ensures all patients are fit for breeding, and allows discussion regarding any relevant health screening tests. $99

Hip and Elbow Scoring: We offer both PennHIP and ANKC scoring. All prices include anaesthetic fee and specialist report. PennHip $1000 ANKC Hips OR Elbows only $800 ANKC Hips AND Elbows combined $900

Ovulation Timing: We offer in-house progesterone testing which provides accurate results within 15 minutes. This can also be used to time elective c-sections. We may also perform vaginal cytology to assist in timing the oestrus cycle. Please call ahead to make an appointment. Progesterone testing $80 Vaginal cytology $30 We may also wish to add in LH (luteinising hormone) testing to narrow down fertile window further. The cost for this is $94.07, and will be discussed on a case by case basis.

Pre-mating Swabs: We may wish to perform a pre-mating swab to work up any infertility, or for peace of mind to know she is in optimal health for breeding. Pre-mating swab $162.80

Artificial Insemination: We offer standing insemination and transcervical insemination. Standing insemination involves collecting from the dog before depositing the fresh semen into the vagina of the bitch with a special pipette. Transcervical insemination is a procedure whereby semen is deposited directly into the uterus under endoscopic (video) guidance. This is a fast, non-invasive procedure that requires no anaesthetic. It can be used with fresh, chilled, and frozen-thawed semen, and offers excellent conception rates. Standing AI $120 (+ collection $150) TCI $600 (fresh or frozen) includes collection.
